Victoria’s skills gap to get budget boost

Victorians will be able to study dozens of courses for free under the state government’s skills shortage cash splash.

Almost 50 TAFE and pre-apprenticeship courses, from dental nursing to concreting, will be free from 2019 under a $172 million state budget package.

Treasurer Tim Pallas said the state previously benefited from skilled migration as the mining construction boom in WA slowed and “now we have to build the homegrown product”.
